Franklin Democrat, Friday December 5, 1884, page 6, column 2
Mr. J. B. McClain, an old and respected citizen of this city, died very suddenly at his home in East Franklin, early last Friday morning, of heart disease in the [65th] year of his age. He retired apparently in his usual good health at a late hour after having participated in the festivities of a thanksgiving supper and party, which was given at his residence that night. Shortly after his retiring his wife was aroused by his struggles and alarmed at his condition, sent for a doctor, but before his arrival death had laid his icy hand on the sufferer. The funeral took place from the Baptist church, of which he was a member, on Sunday morning from where the remains were taken to Greenlawn cemetery followed by a large funeral cortege with sympathizing friends.

Franklin Democrat, Friday December 5, 1884, page 6, column 4
OBITUARY.
Joseph B. McClain that that was born near Oxford, Butler County, Ohio, July 19, 1820, and died of heart disease in Franklin, Indiana, November 27, 1884, in his sixty fifth year. He was the oldest son in a family of eight children. His father died when he was eleven years old, leaving him at that tender age, under his mother's direction, the entire care of the farm. This care he heroically assumed and with such advice and help, as kind neighbors were ready to give, successfully managed until other members of the family were old enough to bear part of the burden.
At the age of twenty he was converted and united with the Presbyterian church under the ministerial labors of Rev. Dr. Scott, a venerable Scotch divine, who was then pastor of the Presbyterian church in Oxford.
On the first day of September, 1842, he was united in marriage by his pastor, Dr. Scott, to Miss Amanda Newbraugh. By this marriage there is one daughter who is now the wife of John King, of Greensburg. When this daughter was one year old the mother died. On the 10th of August, 1848, he was again married to Amanda Bellew. By this marriage there are five children: Edward; Lizzie, wife of Dr. W. A. McCoy, of this city; Ida, wife of Rev. Charles Boaz, of Utica Ill.; Molly, wife of E. J. Beardsley, of Dale, Ind.; and Frank.
In the spring of 1851 Mr. McClain purchased a farm near Shelbyville Ind., where he resided until he moved to this city. About the year 1856 he severed his membership with the Presbyterian church to unite with the Mt. Gilead Baptist church near his home. By his exemplary Christian life he so won the confidence of the church that the next year he was chosen deacon, which position he held until the year 1871 when he sold his farm and moved to this city, where he resided until his death.
Upon coming to Franklin he immediately joined the First Baptist church and was at once chosen deacon, which office in the church he filled most faithfully until the Lord called him home to be forever at rest.
The Christian life of Mr. McClain was a most positive one in keeping with his profession. He left behind him a name more highly praised than any other legacy he could have left to his sorrowing family.
He was in his usual health up to midnight on the night of his death when his wife discovered he was in some way distressed. She only had time to call the family when quietly and peacefully the spirit took its departure. After a most beautiful and appropriate funeral discourse by his pastor, Rev. C. S. Scott, at the Baptist church, his remains were followed to the grave by a large number of relatives and friends.

12606 The 1850 Census has Thirza listed as Thizel and being born in 1783 Fuller, Thirza (I18991)

12607 The 1850 Census has Thomas being born in 1807 in Tennessee and 1812 in North Carolina in 1870. In the 1870 census with his new wife, Thomas has two Scott children living with them. They are Mary A Scott born in 1860 and Albert Scott born in 1862. Both were born in Indiana. They were born too early to be children of his second wife Elizabeth, and it is highly unlikely that they were born to him and his first wife Letha. The last child that i have listed for Thomas and Letha is Sarah in 1852. The likely hood of them being there children are not likely, but it is possible. Upon further research, these 2 children are the children of Jefferson, who is the son of Thomas that died in 1864 and Jefferson's wife died in 1863. According to find a grave Jefferson and Lydia unknown were married in 1859. Scott, Thomas M. (I20499)

12608 The 1850 Census has Thomas being born in 1823. The 1860 Census has the last name of Piles listed. The 1870 & 1880 Census has Thomas being born in 1822. Pyles, Thomas (I8377)

12609 The 1850 Census has Toliver being born in 1816.

According to the FindAGrave website Toliver Snelling's parents are Rev. Benjamin and Mary Sinclair Snelling. It also states that he died of tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by germs that are spread from person to person through the air. TB usually affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body, such as the brain, the kidneys, or the spine. A person with TB can die if they do not get treatment.

12612 The 1850 Census list Jesse as being born in 1828; The 1860, 1870 and 1910 Census list him as being born in 1827. Jesse has two death certificates. Both state a birth state of Ohio. However, all census records state Indiana. I have decided to go with the Indiana Birth State. Alger, Jesse (I23810)

12613 The 1850 Census lists Alexander Norris as being born in 1828 Norris, Alexander (I23653)

12615 The 1850 U.S. Census has Daniel being born in 1817.

Frederick County, Maryland turned into Carroll County, Maryland. When Daniel was born it was still known as Frederick County. All records show it being Carroll County, Maryland. I have chosen to go with the county it was when he was born. It appears he is a descendant of German ancestry as her father's name is Johannes.

The Franklin Republican, Friday, October 5, 1888, page 5, column 1
Mrs. J. B. McClain died in Shelbyville on Tuesday morning from a cancerous growth. She was the wife of the late Deacon McClain and both were former citizens of this place. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in this city, Wednesday forenoon.

Although Find A Grave has Amanda passing on October 2, 1888 I am going with the WPA death index for Indiana.

12622 The 1850, 1860, 1880 & 1910 Census has Sarah being born in 1828. The 1870 Census has her born in 1825.

Sarah states she is the mother of 10 children with only 7 living in 1900. In 1910, she states she has 10 children, with 6 living.

12623 The 1850, 1870 & 1880 Census has William being born in 1819. The 1860 Census has William born in 1814 Roush, William A. (I12479)

12624 The 1850, 1870 & 1880 Census lists Hannah as being born in 1821. The 1900 Census has her being born in March 1823.

Find a grave has the tombstone posted and the dates are clear. In the 1900 Census, Hannah is listed with 8 children born with 8 living. I believe that the child that was not listed was Mary J who was born in 1840. I believe that this may be due to Mary dying before the 1860 Census.
Dalrymple, Hannah R. (I14400)

12625 The 1850, 1870 Census has Prudence being born in 1825. The 1860 Census has Prudence listed as being born in 1827. The 1860 Census also lists what county and state she was born in. Cobler, Prudence Ann (I1904)

12626 The 1850, 1870 Census shows Samuel being born in 1820. The 1860, 1880 Census shows Samuel being born in 1821.

12628 The 1850, 1870, and 1880 Census has Nathaniel being born in 1842 Bradley, Nathaniel (I24370)

12629 The 1850, 1910 & 1920 Census has Henry born in 1844. The 1860 & 1880 Census has Henry being born in 1845. The 1870 Census has Henry being born in 1842.

According to Henry's death certificate he was born in November 1843 but the date is kinda hard to figure out. Ancestry also transcribed it as November 6th which is so far off the mark. According to the obituary for Henry he was born on November 24, 1843. When you calculate the death and the age given it is November 25, 1843 but there is always room for error in the date calculators. For this reason I am going with the obituary as it is most likely correct. The obituary on find a grave does not mention when it was published.

The following is what i found on find a grave:

HENRY C. DINIUS 82, IS DEAD OF PARALYSIS

12630 The 1851 England Census has William being born in 1841. The U.S. Census in 1860 has William being born in 1841. Dafforn, William Mountfort (I24241)

12631 The 1860 & 1870 Census has Emaline being born in 1851 Lucas, Emaline Samantha (I9351)

12632 The 1860 & 1870 Census has Hezekiah being born in 1875

According to the website https://freepages.rootsweb.com/~gen2/family/index.htm created by Jean Hehn, Hezekiah is the son of Peter Smith. According to the website, there are bible records to prove this but, no proof of the bible record as it is not posted. I have already found discrepencies in her work as Hezekiah Carey, the son of this Hezekiah, did not die until 1904 and she has him passing in 1897. But, along with the discrepencies are some facts. So, if you use this site, please do your own research to prove what you can to make sure you have it right and documented.

SMITH--On Feb. 2, 1871, at his residence, near Smithland, Shelby Co., Ind., Rev. Hezekiah Smith, in the 87th year of his age.

The subject of this notice was born near Augusta, Ga., July 17, 1784. He in early life removed with his parents to Hamilton Co., O. When but a lad he went to Lexington, Ky., to learn the saddler's trade. While there he professed religion and was baptized by Elder Bainbridge into the fellowship of the Baptist Church in that place, in the seventeenth year of his age. Upon the completion of his apprenticeship he returned to Ohio and united with the Duck Creek Baptist Church. He soon united with the Bethel Baptist Church on Donald's Creek, Clark Co., O. This Church soon licensed him to preach, and in 1824, at the call of the same church, a council convened and ordained him to the work of the ministry. He was very active in preaching the gospel wherever opportunity offered. His sphere seemed to be that of an evangelist rather than a pastor, and in that capacity he preferred to labor. He went everywhere preaching the gospel, and many were led to Christ through his untiring labors and faithful presentation of gospel truth. He never shunned to declare the whole counsel of God. The Bible was his text book, and this he daily studied and consequently became "mighty in the Scriptures." He was truly a Bible preacher.

His moral character was always above reproach. One man said to the writer, "I have known Father Smith for more than forty years, and no man could ever say anything against his Christian character." He was a consistent Christian. He was a man of strong positive convictions. He deliberately and carefully made up his decisions on all moral questions, and then fearlessly and persistently advocated them. He was always in the van in all moral reforms. The great aim and effort of his life seemed to be to elevate society, and to do this by leading the people to Christ.

The last eighteen years of his life were spent in peace on his farm in Shelby Co., Ind., with his companion, who survives him, and with whom he lived over sixty years, surrounded by most of their children. He went down to the grave like a shock of corn fully ripe, and all felt that a good man had gone to his blessed reward. His funeral sermon was preached by the writer from Rev. xiv.13.

12641 The 1860 & 1870 Census has Sarah being born in 1785. From all my years of experience, the ladys were known for fibbing about their age on the census records. Evidently she wanted it to appear that she was 5 years younger than she actually was. Drake, Sarah "Sally" (I15579)

12643 The 1860 & 1870 Census has Thorton being born in 1825. The 1870 Census has Thorton being born in Michigan for some odd reason. I believe this was in response to where are you from.

In the 1860 Census, Thornton and Delila have an Eliza E and Elizabeth both listed as children. Eliza and Elizabeth is a name that is interchangeable. These two could be the same child. Further research is required to see if these two children are actually one child.
Loman, Thorton (I24243)

12644 The 1860 & 1880 Census has Eliza being born in 1826. The 1870 Census has Eliza listed as Elizabeth. Martz, Eliza A. (I10617)

12645 The 1860 & 1880 Census has George listed as being born in 1855.

According to the 1900 Census, George has a daughter, Crystal H who was born in October 1891 in Indiana. If the marriage date is accurate, this child is not from this marriage. Further research is required to ascertain if they have the date wrong or he was married previously.
Lottridge, George L. (I2825)

12646 The 1860 & 1880 Census has Samuel listed as being born in 1821.

Because of the tombstone we have Samuel's birthdate at August 21, 1819. When calculating from the death certificate, it comes up with August 22, 1819. His death was reported my his brother Isaac. Which makes it even more implausible that he remarried after his wife Elizabeth died.

12648 The 1860 & 1910 Census has John being born in 1856.. The 1880 Census has John being born in 1857. John's memorial on findagrave.com states that his middle name is Coleman. However, there is no documentation that I have found that shows his full middle name. Mason, John C. (I24260)

12649 The 1860 - 1880 Census has Isaac being born in 1834. The 1900 Census taker really messed up this family's name. Due to all other records, I know this is the right family. The census taker evidently did not know how to spell Isaac or Dishong. He is in the census record as Isaac Disholm. The birth record of Lilly has Isaac as J.M. I believe it should be I M, especially considering that the mother is listed as Sarah Ann Keller and they were married in 1858 and remained married until Sarah's death in 1907.
The 1900 - 1920 Census records have Isaac being born in 1832. The 1900 Census shows a birth month of November

12650 The 1860 and 1870 has Leonidas listed as Leonidas P. Leonidas's name is spelled Leonadas P in the 1880 Census. The 1860 - 1880, 1910 Census has Leonidas listed as being born in 1860. Wallace, Leonidas D. "Lee" (I14191)
