DEATH OF WELL KNOWN RESIDENT OF ALLEN.
Fanny Mary Swank, wife of Malias(sic) Swank, died at her residence at her residence in Wallen, Ind., on Thursday morning at the age of forty years. The deceased was one of the best known residents of Wallen and the country surrounding. She was a member of the church and lived a beautiful christian life.

Surviving are her husband, who is postmaster of Wallen, and the following children, May Zella, Eva Maria, Mildred, Ina and Stanton. Three sisters, Mrs. John Preble, Mrs. Charles Preble, Mrs. A.W. Griswold, and one brother, J.V. Griswold(sic), of Indianapolis, also survive. [Note: her siblings are not listed correctly]

The funeral will take place from the residence at 9:30 on Saturday morning and at 10 o'clock from Wallen Methodist Episcopal church.

When Mary died the cemetery was most likely just Huntertown Cemetery and may still be that today and they just put old at the end to decifer what part of the cemetery.

Anna is listed as Ann in the 1850 Census. She is listed as Annie in the 1920 Census. She is also listed as being born in 1840 in the 1920 Census. In the 1900 Census it shows her being born in February 1839

It is stated in the 1900 Census that Anna is the mother of 10 children, also stating that all of the ten children are still alive.

In the 1870 Census there is a child listed as Hawel. There are people that think Hawel is a different child than Mason. However, if that was the case Mason would have been listed in the 1870 Census and he was not except for the mis spelling of his name as Hawel. There is a reson that a tombstone cannot be found - because it does not exist because the child does not exist. In the 1880 Census all 8 children are listed in the household. In the 1900 Census, Anna is listed as being the mother of 10 children, with all 10 children living so the idea that Mason and Hawel are 2 different children is answered as no with this listing.
Anna is listed as being born in February 1839 in the 1900 Census

When this marriage was recorded for searchable documents on family search, they documented as the marriage taking place on 14 May 1824, however, when you enlarge the document, no where do i see a 1 in there at all. Due to this I am recording it as 4 May 1824. If anyone can prove the 14th, I welcome the correction with documentation.

Notes:

In the 1860 Census the last name is spelled incorrectly. It should either be Stainton or Stanton and they have it as Staunton. The Sainton comes from Peter's baptismal record in England so that is what I have left his name at.

Peter is also listed in the 1860 Census as being born in 1797 which I find incorrect considering his baptism record clearly shows 1798 for his birth year.

There is a Mary New living within the household of Peter and Freelove in 1850. By some people's research they say this is a daughter of Freeloves from a previous marriage however, the dates don't mesh with the father of Mary dying in 1859 when Freelove is clearing in a new marriage in 1835.

There is a Howell D Newton born about 1857 in Wisconsin that is living within the household of Peter and Freelove Stanton/Staunton in 1860.

When looking for Peter in the 1870 Census, you may have to look with the last name of Stanley. This Census record is very hard to decifer. Both Ancestry and Family Search got the last name wrong, and they both got Freelove's name wrong. I have put in alternate information in hopes that it can be found under the last name of Stanton.

Some people have Freelove having the surname Groger.I did verify that her last name was Groger with her daughter Anna's death certificate. Supposedly she was married previous to Peter Sainton/Stanton and that is possible with the 19 year old that is living within the household of Peter and Freelove. However, the family search family tree states that her first marriage to David Nye was in Vermont. Her first husband, if she indeed did marry this previous man, died in 1859 whereas her and Peter were in the same house living as husband and wife in 1850. So unless the supposed first husband died in 1849, this is impossible. Although divorces did happen back then, it was very uncommon for it to happen. It was frowned on to divorce.
